Our sissy Local Leaders should have called for a town meeting at the get go.. Instead of having
something at the 106 pct Community Council. That meeting was useless & most likely pre-arranged just
to take pressure off of the DA & our Local ( not ) Leaders .As previously written...the hate crimes unit has
more  than ample info to go forward...but their to busy trying to sweep this under the rug....Yes some of
the individuals were gang members...

Why don't the cops give tickets to those jumping the line to turn onto the Conduit from Crossbay Blvd
south. The block the left lane all the time and it's dangerous, to busy giving out seat belt tickets I guess.

It figures these criminals would get a slap on the wrist, conveniently the DA doesn't have enough
evidence and conveniently they need more time as the Holidays approach. We need to have another rally
and we need to rally outside the DA's office I think that would get us plenty of news coverage and also
push the DA to work harder at finding the missing evidence since he claims there isn't much. I am
outraged and this will only get worse if we do not speak up, I was thinking of going to the DA's office on
Friday to say a few words even if it's just to make me feel at ease that someone heard what I had to say.
It is ridiculous how parents have to be afraid to send their children out and it is a shame we as a
community have to live in fear period. How do we know the remaining 35 gang members won't strike
again, and letting these thugs off so easily will give the green light for every gang member and criminal to
come into our safe neighborhood and cause trouble for our kids and our community.

It's definitely a double standard, last week that was all over the news. I blame the media. LP

CBC........Police fired 12 shots and killed a crazed man in city line. Anyone outraged? Anyone want to
rally? Of course not, the man had a broken bottle in his hand and was charging the cops, the police
thought he had a knife. Sound eerily familiar to the Brooklyn incident last week which sparked protests.
Doe it matter if the cops were white or black? No, the Daily News article doesn't mention anyone's race
(which is the how  it should report each incident in our colorblind society). For the record the dead man
was white and we do not know the race of the cops. If the dead man were black it would be all over the
news. Double Standard?  Lets hear you thoughts.

Politically Incorrect District Attorney's & Ass't District Attorney's they are way to lenient when it comes to
people of every other color, but, White,   Its not about their own personal Political Agenda now, it is about
getting the message out, that if they come to Howard Beach to commit a Crime, especially a serious
crime like this, than they must do the Time!  If the DA doesn't take charge now, it will be a free for all in
Howard Beach, and maybe next time they will kill one of our children, than What, Mr DA MAN? LP

In reference to the Gouden Incident, his Neighbor, who used Racial Slurs and threatened him with a
Baseball Bat, as the News reported "threatened".  Why was Gouden's neighbor charged with Several
Felonies????

These Criminals on Halloween, are only charged with Misdemeanors and a Class D Felony....what gives
here....they robbed and beat out Youth, on a 4 block stretch of Crossbay Blvd, remember, they strutted
down the blvd armed.  

So either you lower the Charges on Gouden's neighbor, or you up the Charges against the Creeps on
Halloween.

What's fair is fair......if its good for one than its good for the Other!  No Matter what Color!!!  The law
states DO NOT DISCRIMINATE OR SHOW PREJUDICE, WELL????DC

If you didn't understand before, you do now.  For years and years many people have been trying to get a
point across.  But few would listen.  More interested in sports, beer, "American Idol" and racing cars
down the boulevard, than seeing what is right in front of them.  That is, that White people are open to
attack, and the criminals will not be punished severely.
White Americans, you are losing your country, your rights, your privileges, and your lives.  As far as the
law, media and liberals are concerned, racism is racism only when it is committed by Whites against
non-Whites.  When the situation is reversed, it is not a hate crime.
You who have been voting for liberals and Democrats deserve what you get.  Not a word of support from
Gov. Spritzer, Charles Schumer, or Bill and Hillary Clinton.  You can all bet that if Whites had attacked a
Black guy, they'd all be down here calling Howard Beach a racist town.
When are you going to wake up and see what is happening and what you are losing?   And I'll bet that
after all this, come next election day, many residents of Howard beach are going to go right back and
vote for Hillary and a host of other liberals.  
You get what you vote for.   Sitting at home complaining will get you nowhere.   We must do exactly what
Al Sharpton would do - stop traffic, hold marches, and demand that our elected leaders pay attention.  
But mostly, you need to vote for the right people.  Go ahead, vote for Hillary.   And don't complain when
she makes Al Sharpton her closest advisor. BA

This is really getting ridiculous it is such bull that the DA doesn't have enough evidence to charge these
thugs with a hate crime, the police commander knew right away it was a bias attack hence why he
reported it to the hate crime investigators. Racial slurs, surveillance tapes, and witnesses aren't enough
evidence? This situation in Hamilton Beach with this guy having 24 hour police protection is simply
ludicrous and uncalled for how can a person be charged with a hate crime for using the "N" word when
the black community so freely uses it amongst themselves to address one another. If black people do not
want that word thrown around so easily maybe they as well as Sharpton should harass these multi
millionaire rappers that use is so frequently. Maybe our next rally should be in front of the DA's office this
way he will know we aren't giving up so easy and we are serious about fighting back. I shake at the
thought of these attackers coming back because they know they will get off the hook and perhaps this
time something worse may occur. I do not want to have to worry about my young cousin walking these
streets. The thought of all this makes me sick literally, I am so angered by these politicians and the DA, I

I was at the meeting the other night and I do not blame the cops at all, however I do think Joe Addabbo
and the Mayor as well as the police commissioner could have at least made a public statement like they
did when Nick Minucci was being tried. I personally feel as if they do not want to go public about this
investigation because they do not want to offend any other race, but what about our race? Do we not
count? I just find it funny how everything was so public when Nick's case was going on and now even
though an investigation is pending why can't our politicians make statements about it? I understand the
DA needs to build a case if anyone understands that it's me, I work for attorneys I know how the business
is, but those that are in office can help by making statements this will show future attackers that we as a
community mean business in keeping our neighborhood safe and that our politicians, DA and cops all
back us up. A little publicity never hurts in a case like this and I think the people we elect to run our
neighborhood and our city need to make statements in situations such as this one.

take back our community. We have been listening to inflammatory comments from the other side for 20

spewing for years. Our property is at risk, our children at risk, our very lives at stake. We walk around with

In response to your comments about disrespect, please do me the favor of using my name, Pat Adams
when you speak about me and my newspaper, The Forum South.  I welcome comment and criticism but I
prefer that everyone knows who you are speaking about since I am not the only "she" who publishes a
newspaper in this area.  I am however the only publisher that has been out on the street for the last two
weeks trying to cut through the "cover-ups" that my fellow community residents feel they might be falling
victim to.
Since I seem to be the subject of so much of your anger and disapproval, perhaps I can make myself
clear once and for all.  This is not an issue about free speech--obviously as my chosen profession
depends solely on free speech, I have a great respect for this Constitutional amendment and all
individuals who express their thoughts and opinions.  In a case however, where an entire community is at
risk by the impact of inflammatory statements, and more importantly those that have no truth behind them,
I do think that restraint and thought are in order when expressing such opinion.
Repeatedly, on this web site there have been comments about elected officials not doing their job and
the police not handling this case as they would have had the victims been black.
The fact of the matter is that there have been more police, detectives and hate Crimes Task Force
personnel assigned to this case than others that have previously occurred in this community. And with
regard to the position of elected officials, this is not a matter of resolving a building code or repairing a
pothole.  Our elected officials, who have often fallen victim to my pen, are not in a position to do any more
than to get access to law enforcement officials and represent our views and concerns to them.  These
actions have been taken in this matter.
I think it is important since I have been so involved in this issue since the beginning that I make my
position very clear.  As a person who has spoken to victims, witnesses, law enforcement officials and
also as one who was in attendance at the closed door meeting at DA Brown's office, (in my capacity as
the vice-president of the Howard Beach Columbus Day Foundation), I have a very clear opinion as to
what happened in Howard Beach on Halloween night.
A group of between 30-40 blacks and Hispanics entered our community carrying deadly weapons with
the intent to do physical harm to white people in Howard Beach.  Because an egg was thrown at them is
not an explanation, excuse or defense to explain what they did.  Their actions were clearly hateful and it is
my personal belief that this incident is founded in racial bias and should be prosecuted as a hate crime.  
Therefore I suppose that my position is the same as everyone's on this web site.  It is my hope that these
individuals will have the charges against them elevated by one degree and that they will be prosecuted
under the Hate Crime Law.
Unfortunately, my opinion or yours is not enough for the district attorney's office to build the case required
to do so.  What is needed, is the cooperation of witnesses, positive identifications and supportive
testimony to substantiate the claims that racial slurs were used in the attack.  But even racial slurs are not
enough to establish the clear intent of a premeditated attack of racial bias under the Hate Crime Law.  
What is needed is the proof of intent of the attackers, that they came to Howard Beach solely with the
intention of targeting white people in their attack.  I feel that no matter how frustrating that is to all of us,
who know in our hearts what they were doing here, we must remain patient and hope that the justice we
deserve is provided.
The remarks I made at the 106 Pct Council meeting were not in any way disrespectful.  The remarks
were a reflection of my opinion and that is that I do not feel that it serves our united purpose, to demean
or wrongfully blame the very individuals that are doing their jobs to the fullest extent to help calm the
community and at the same time encourage law enforcement officials to work at proving what happened
here was not just a random attack, but rather a vicious bias crime.
Further and finally, the job of a responsible community newspaper is not to feed the frustration and angst
of a wounded community.  It is instead, an outlet for our residents to get the factual accounting of what
happened and to voice their opinions in a fair and objective forum.  The only two newspapers who truly
serve this community in that capacity are The Queens Chronicle and The Forum South, clearly reflected
by the voters in your own poll. Other publications who falsely claim to be community papers, rely on
sensational headlines and blatantly inaccurate reporting, not only in this incident but many others, with a
total lack of consideration for the damage they can cause to our community.  
I hope that I have cleared up any misconceptions concerning my position in this matter to the posters on
this web site and its host.

ADDABBO HAD FAILED US ONCE MORE!

Councilman Joe Addabbo has failed us again in his public duty. All we ever see of Joe is him giving
handshakes and cutting ribbons. Where is Joe when we need him? He did not join our rally condemning
the attacks, and he was absent from the Police precinct Council meeting. He cannot represent us in
anything anymore. He should resign, and let someone else who cares about our homes and our

Brooklyn Incident: I can understand the cops concern, between the 911 call & also when they
arrived..... they were under the impression that he had a gun, as he screamed in the background on the
911 tape.  Then he has a  hairbrush under his shirt, which looks like a gun, well,.....I don't think I would
have stood there and waited for this kid to stroll over to me,  There's allot more to this story, he had a
"Death Wish" & if he did have a gun, he would have probably killed his Mother, his father, and possibly a

CBC..... Sorry you feel that way, I think if you  had attended the meeting you would feel differently. I had
a feeling of accomplishment in that the communities efforts over the past weeks did not fall on deaf ears.
They heard our concerns and are reacting to them, that was one of our goals and we succeeded. You
can only turn a screw so much, we received plausible answers to our questions, there didn't seem to be
any stonewalling or BS, had there been we would be the first to tell you.
Here's an example: last week we asked one of local officials if the cops are looking for the remaining
members of the gang, and if there would be any gang related charges brought, the reply was that the DA
said at their meeting that the injuries were not serious enough, that sounds like nonsense and we posted
that immediately. Last nights (answer and you can read it below) sounded logical. This what we have
been saying from the start, the community needs this information in order to calm anger and fears.
Its one thing to give a report to the police but something altogether different to testify in front of a packed
courtroom and point out the defendants. Do the parents of the victims let their children testify, parading
them in front of the media. These are very difficult decisions that members of community must make and
we must stand behind them no matter what their decision is. While nearly all of us think this was a hate
crime, no one goes to jail in the court of public opinion. We as well all members of the community will
keep a watchful eye on the proceedings and any new information we get will be posted.

November 14
Just got back from the Community meeting at the 106 Pct. There is no reason why Howard
Beach had such a poor turnout, there were more people from Richmond Hill complaining
about taxi cabs and parking on their  block then HB residents. I wish you were there, because
in addition to the Commanding Officer from the 106, representatives from the DA's Office,
NYPD Hate Crimes Unit, members of the Community Board, Councilman Addabbo's office,
State Senator Serf Maltese, Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer, enough people to answer your
questions. Representatives from some of the local newspapers were also on hand. Hopefully I
didn't forget anyone.

The police are actively pursuing the remainder of the gang, the problem is with such a large
crowd it's difficult for witnesses to identify everyone. Let's  hope one of the attackers  flips on
the others. Another possibility which I believe is still on the table is a plea deal with one of the
attackers in exchange for information.

As far as the hate crime charges,  the investigation is ongoing and the DA is pursuing those
charges very aggressively we were told. It seems as though they don't have a witness that
definitively  can say  a racial slur was used. We heard differently, and if anyone can shed some
light on this please do. For myself,  I was satisfied with the explanation of the remaining
members of the gang, the hate crime charges seemed somewhat nebulous but lets not forget
this is an ongoing investigation and we just can't be privy to all of the information. Everyone in
attendance was extremely courteous and went out of their way answer questions.

The only disrespectful comment was made by a representative from one of our local
newspapers who didn't agree with some of the comments you and CBC were making on this
website. Let me remind that person, what makes this country great is our  "Freedom of
Speech", whether she or I agree with what is being said, everyone has the right to be heard. I
personally don't agree with every post and I'm sure no one is going to agree on everything  
that is said in this room. What is important is that the community has a forum to express open
exchange of opinions, ideas, concerns and beliefs. The more we communicate the better our
community will become!

In closing, I believe the rally, the community outrage and our comments on this website  (which
most tonight admitted to reading) most definitely had an impact and opened some eyes, but
that by no means its over. The community must keep up the pressure and not back down. This
seems like a minor victory for our side but the battle is far from over and we can't let up.

CBC.....Mr. Minucci was being charged with hate crimes because of prosecutors' allegation
that he seized upon Mr. Moore because of his race. Mr. Minucci's use of a racial epithet was
debated extensively during the tense three-week trial, where it was often referred to as the "n" word.
The Queens district attorney, Richard A. Brown, differed with that explanation after the verdict, which
he said sent a clear message that "the 'n' word has no place in our society and should be banished from
our vocabulary."

Mr. Brown continued, "When Nick Minucci picked up that aluminum bat on June 29, 2005, he raised

Howard Beach Residents-
Why are we being so quiet about this Racial issue that will effect us in the future?

Why doesn't our fearless  leader Adabbo call a town hall meeting? Isnt he supposed to be here for us?
Wasn't he elected by us to look out for our own good? Doesn't he himself have young children that will
one day go out on a night like Halloween and walk Crossbay Blvd with their friends? Doesn't he himeself
want them to be safe as they walk the blvd without fear of being attacked, mugged or hurt by racially
motivated teenagers and/ or gang members?

There still has been no comments from Bloomberg on this issue. Why should he comment if we are not
making a fuss? Putting himself out there won't do him any good. I blame our community leaders for not
putting pressure on the powers that be and if our community leaders are not going to man up and take a
stand against the system this issue is dead in the water. That's the bottom line. We all can sit here and
type and demand things but if those in charge do nothing- its not going to mean anything.
Why are our own communtity leaders so quiet about this issue? What are they afraid of?
I am ashamed of all of them! I am ashamed how they are handling this whole issue!

Like I read in an earlier post, we show support on those "Happy Gatherings"  were hundreds turn out
from the neighborhood--Columbus Parades, Halloween Parades, Toys for tots etc. Thats when "OUR
COMMUNITY LEADERS" come out and smile for the camera. They know how to do that so well. We all
sit behind those baricades waving flags and smiling so proud that we are having this event in our
community. Thinking how lucky we are to have "LEADERS"  who "CARE" about doing positive things in
Howard Beach for us and our children. And this decision that effects all of us- especially our youth is
being brushed under the rug by those we wave to and think we are so proud of.
WHY ISN'T A RALLY BEING ARRANGED AT THE COURT HOUSE ON NOVEMBER 16TH?

Does anyone realize that come November 16th the media frenzy will descend upon us once again for our
reactions and the "Those In Charge " will still not have our backs? By that time it will be too late for us to
do anything about it!
Does everyone realize that?

God help us all because if they do not take a stand now-and lead us the way that they should-we all will
hear what we don't want to hear on November 16th. If thats the case- then- whomever is interviewed on
the news better say---these teens that got away with a racial attack with only a slap on the wrist was
because our community leaders were too busy to stand up and do the right thing for us when it counted.

CBC......We welcome everyone's opinion, ideas and thoughts whether we agree or not. If we all
communicate and offer up solutions to various problems perhaps something will get done. We
(meaning this website) are also Howard Beach residents and are entitled to our opinion. Our
opinion is no different then anyone else and it is NOT more meaningful then anyone else. We

Having said that, this community consist of many thousands of people with different opinions
as Stephanie has stated but Howard Beach has been quiet for 20 years and look where it has
gotten us, our own children are no longer safe to walk down the streets of our community. I
think we will all agree that approach doesn't work. We cannot be afraid to take a stand. If we
were to march down Crossbay in huge numbers  the press could not ignore us and even if one
future would-be attacker viewed  it and said to himself I better say out of there, we have
accomplished something and hopefully at the same time getting the Hate Crime charges to

was made by the image the media portrayed us as. Those are
the people you should go after, not this website. We finally have

Someone stated I feel I am "an Attorney, Journalist,
Law Enforcement Officer, District Attorney, and
Speaker for the Community of Howard Beach."  That
person may choose to believe that but it would be
quite inaccurate as I am none of those nor do I feel
that I am.  I am, however, a resident of Howard Beach
who is as angry as many of you are, but who chooses
not to let anger drive my thought processes. This is
supposed to be a community forum to offer opinions and
discuss them.  This is a community of many thousands
of people and there will never be unanimity of opinion
on how to approach dealing with something we all may
care about whether it is this concern or any other.
I've attempted to offer my opinion.  If you agree with
me, fine - if you don't, that's fine too.  You're as
entitled to your opinion as I am to mine.  Maybe you
don't like the style in which I am expressing it,
however maybe I'm doing it the way I am as a means to
help dispel the stereotype that does exist, like it or
not, of our community as one full of uneducated,
ill-spoken rednecks. (which it is not - that's other
people's perception, not mine)  I'm fairly sure that
like any website, it's not just us in HB reading.
