The congestion and pollution in the city has not hurt the real estate market in Manhattan with studios going for over one million, people are still flocking to the city. But when you decide to live in the city the congestion and pollution comes along with it. The air quality has improved dramatically since the 70's and hopefully it will continue to do so without a crippling tax. I am so sick of this crap and all these double standards when is America going to wake up. Why don't we have white history month our race went through just as much hardship as theirs did, the Jews had the Holocaust the Italians and Irish had problems when they first came to America. We deserve for our history to be taught in schools. I remember growing up learning in History class all about slavery and how bad white people were, I didn't learn about much of my own race and the struggles we went through. We need to stand up for our rights this country goes from one extreme to the next we went from blacks being slaves to now whites losing all power and rights of their own. Something needs to be done and quick. CrossbayBlvd.com is not our primary business, we are a group of three who design and develop websites. Amanda is correct in that merchant participation will greatly enhance the site and our vision is to have every merchant to participate by providing not only menus and fliers but daily sales and specials. Everyone will win, the local businesses will increase sales and save on printing costs while everyone will save some money each week. We are asking for your help, ask your favorite merchant why they don't have their menu's or sales fliers on Crossbayblvd.com. Ask your real estate agent to show their apartments or houses to the community first. We don't have an advertising budget because there is really no money to be made, even if every merchant participated it would not be enough to support one of us yet alone three. On the bottom of our home page you will always see "Keep our Community Strong, Shop Crossbay Blvd," and we just don't mean Crossbay Blvd we are concerned about all the local business including Lindenwood and Old Howard. Unfortunately is it become increasingly difficult for small businesses to survive, the rents on Crossbay are astronomical and there is a lack of patronage from the community which makes EF's statement correct, in that our local businesses need "outsiders" in order to stay in business. The problem is that many "outsiders" come from undesirable areas, especially to the West, while most come to spend money and enjoy Crossbay, others come to start trouble or commit crimes. BB raises a good point about these chain stores operating within our community and not giving anything back, this would never happen in Harlem, they get shaken down by every organization possible. We as a community, along with our local leaders, community board and civic associations need to band together to ensure that we get a slice of the pie and that these larger retailers contribute to the betterment of our community, if they refuse we can always boycott or protest in front of their establishment. I wonder if DA Brown brought Valerie a birthday cake? The article also mentions the fact that many in the DA office at the highest levels felt the cops were charged too harshly. We receive many emails which the author's don't want posted for whatever reason and thats fine, I enjoy the dialog. Without boring everyone with scientific data here is my take on global warming: the earth has warmed over the past 100 years, thats a fact, is it man made, that's debatable Al Gore and Paris Hilton are not respected climatologist and I think global warming is just political. The hate America crowd at the UN and the EU have been pushing global warming for years. If we took daily temperature readings in the middle of Charles Park's baseball field for 40 years and today we black topped the field and took reading for another 40 years on the black top I don't think anyone would disagree the black top readings would be higher, just walk barefoot on a hot day on black top. Can we conclude that Howard Beach has warmed over the last 40 years, or even the entire planet has warmed? Not really because concrete and black top absorbs heat much better then a baseball field. This has happened all over the planet in last 100 years as cities and their suburbs expand. Dirt roads replaced by asphalt, concrete buildings, cars, parking lots, heat escaping from houses all contribute to higher local temperatures. If anyone was up early this morning, if you lived in Howard Beach you had frost on your car but if you lived in Ozone Park you had dew on your car and the reason for that is that the houses in HB are spaced out more then OZ and therefore more grass as opposed to concrete in OZ, this caused the temperature in HB to be slightly lower then OZ. __________________________________________________________________________________________ ER love that response to PG. Surface temperature have increased over the last 100 years. Does that mean it is caused by CO2 and is man made ? Absolutely not. Scientist cannot find a mechanism for CO2 creating Global warming based upon it's characteristics. Nearly everything on Earth has increased in the last 100 years, one can superimpose (population) on a temperature graph and it would appear that the population increase is the cause of higher temperatures. The Global warming hype is taking on a cult-like status with opposing views being ridiculed and dismissed. I don't think we currently have the technology to make such predictions, just too many variables which must be factored into the equation. Incoming Solar radiation has also increased over the years although starting in 2006 that amount has decreased and many scientist believe a dramatic cool down has started. There just seems to be a hidden agenda behind all of this starting with a new method of taxation in the name of Global Warming. No opposing views on the subject are ever covered by the media which makes me even more sceptical(the old limiting of free speech game). A global redistribution a wealth plan? Perhaps Having said that, we still need to find alternative fuel sources, reduce pollution and protect our environment for future generations.
