People like you are kool-aid drinkers for the Democratic party who put your party first above country and the
neighborhood. What has Meeks done for HB....NOTHING. You get upset enough to write in when someone knocks a
do nothing congressman but not a word from you when our country or President gets trashed. You shouldn't cite
polls because your Democratic congress has a 19% approval rating the lowest ever recorded. Just look at what they
have done since taking over in 2006. Obviously you don't have children because you are quoting from a city study
of parks, well I can tell you every ball field in Ozone Park and Howard Beach are deplorable and most of the adjacent
playgrounds the same. Who should we blame, Bush or maybe your local Democratic politicians. Ride through any
minority neighborhood and they have beautiful parks, many with lighted basketball and baseball fields, along with
youth programs. If our kids are in a park after dark they get a ride to the 106 Pct. No one is saying minorities
shouldn't have great parks but we should also, we deserve better. Members of OUR community should be able to
enjoy the parks just like everyone else. You SP have got to learn to put the needs of our community first and the
Democratic party second. If all the local politicians were Republican or any other party I would feel the same way, the
needs of the community come first. MC

the people of Howard Beach for not getting involved in Ms. McCloskey’s group when what I said was that more might
get done if there were less ranting and more participation in what the Chronicle called a small group of dedicated
volunteers. That’s an opinion expressed, not an assignment of blame.
You are also entitled to whatever opinion of Congressman Meeks you want. Your categorical
statement that he has “done absolutely nothing for Howard Beach” simply translates, in my opinion, to
that he has not done whatever satisfies you. He’s up for election this year, support another candidate or run against
him yourself if you want. In fact, if you want another candidate, next week is when you can start doing the petitions
necessary to get a candidate you prefer on the ballot for November. Have at it,it’s a free country. Who is the “they”
you would like to investigate where the money is going? I imagine that if you asked her, Ms. McCloskey would tell
you that both Meeks and Weiner have been among the “theys” who have been pressuring the National Park Service
to provide an accounting for how it allocates the $22 million budget appropriation for Gateway.
Congress makes the appropriation, it is the Department of Interior’s National Park Service, a Bush
administration controlled agency, which spends it. Apparently it’s ok for you to trash some Congressmen you don’t
like, but it’s not ok, in your opinion, for me to imply anything negative about the Bush administration. You may think
it’s “people like me who are ruining the neighborhood”, I think the people who are in control in the Bush
administration are those who are doing an unsatisfactory job. No matter whose poll you look at, about two thirds of
the country’s people agree about the Bush administration doing a poor job, so it is pretty typical to bash the Bushies.
You stated that I “should smarten up” and take a ride around Jamaica and “I will never see a park in such disrepair
as Charles Park.” That could be true and probably is true, however I believe those parks are not federal parks like
Charles. I believe they are not under the jurisdiction of the National park service. Enlighten me, MC, where is the
federal park under National Park Service jurisdiction in Jamaica so that I can compare it to Charles Park? That
would bean apples to apples comparison.
Comparing Charles Park to city parks would be an apples to oranges comparison. There are city parks in Jamaica.
The Parks Department regularly inspects all city parks and puts the ratings on the city’s website so all can see them
if they want to. Over the last 7 years, city parks south of Hillside Avenue on the east side of the VanWyck, all in
Meeks’ district, averaged a rating of about 80% for acceptable conditions. City parks in Howard Beach, Ozone Park,
and South Ozone Park on this side of the VanWyck averaged about 90% for acceptable conditions according to the
Parks Department. The city thinks parks in our general vicinity are better that those further east. You or I
may not agree with that assessment, but that is the assessment of the city. SP

The Chronicle article about Charles Park says there is a “small group of extremely dedicated community members…
dedicated to their mission of improving Charles Park.” Maybe if more people got involved with them instead of just
ranting about Meeks more would get done.
That article also said it is the National Park Service that is the problem, not Meeks or Weiner. The leader of Friends
of Charles Park says in the article that it is Gateway that does not do its job. Meeks and Weiner did their job. They,
voting on appropriations in Congress, funded, according to the article, the Jamaica Bay Unit of Gateway to the tune
of $7.5 million. The article also says Addabbo, Pheffer, and Maltese have also tried to help despite the fact that as
city and state officials they have no oversight on Gateway. “It’s a federal park. It should be treated like a federal
park and Gateway needs to step up tothe plate.” the article says. It is the Department of the Interior, a cabinet
agency, under the Bush administration that administers the National Park Service, which runs Gateway and which is
responsible for the upkeep of Charles Park. It’s Gateway that decided how much of that $7.5 million got spent in
Charles Park and Hamilton Beach Park. Meeks does not need to google the directions to Charles Park. He's been
there a number of times meeting with McCloskey and other residents to try to get Gateway to do its job. So has
Weiner. SP

departmental trial. It is also nothing new that those proceedings are delayed until after the outcome of a criminal
trial. After a criminal trial is usually the time when departmental charges & specs are served on cops who face

hundred arrests were made during the peaceful demonstrations. I wonder if any innocent people died because
emergency vehicles couldn't get through to save them. I have been trying to find what is the racial component of cop

Getting gas tonight was the worst experience ever what usually takes me 10 minutes at most took 30 to 40 minutes.
It was so packed we all had to wait on lines and then pumping the gas was so slow because everyone was there

public and they all kissed up to Quinn in order to get a bigger piece of the pie. $47 million in discretionary funds and
untold millions in the 313 million budgeted by the city council, that is just the tip of the iceberg. Why don't you be
truthful and admit they all played the game and not one of them reported any of it the authorities. Yes throw them all

When I said, “work with” I meant that the other Council men and women are not responsible for the crimes of a
person who works with them (another Council man or woman) any more than you or I are responsible for a fellow
worker’s crime unless we knew of it and did not report it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but they are not
entitled to their own facts. First, get the facts. Second understand the facts, then be truthful in representing the facts.
Where are the facts that show that the “whole city council should be thrown into jail”? Where are the
facts that “100’s of millions” were stolen?   Judging by what has been reported, thus far, the facts so far
are that the Speaker of the Council allowed a practice of “stockpiling” funds that should not have been. No
facts have been presented that her 50 colleagues were aware of it or defend it. One Councilman in Brooklyn
funded a group headed by a member of his staff and that staff member and another have been arrested and
charged for stealing at least part of that funding. There may be more of that type of behavior revealed as
the investigation continues, but to condemn a group of people, the whole City Council, in advance of any
evidence of wrong-doing is ludicrous and wrong. That list of dollar amounts each Council member was able to
direct is a fact. To understand the meaning of that list requires some more facts. Who were the groups or
what were the projects that got the money? How do they have to request it? Are there public hearings
about this money that we could go to if we wanted to? Is there information available to us about where the
money goes on a website? Were there some extra programs not funded by the Education budget funded by
our Councilman in our local schools? Were some extra funds not from the Aging budget or the Youth budget
made available to senior programs and youth programs in his district? Did some senior or kid from his
district get to go on an extra trip because it was funded by some of this money? Did a small job some
city agency didn’t want to do get done because a Councilman funded it with a grant? It’s easy to be
negative and paint with a broad brush. Condemn those whose behavior is condemnable. Defend those whose
behavior is not. EF

it. We're not a criminal if someone we work with gets arrested for something that we had nothing to do with. We're
not racist just because we live in Howard Beach. Just because some politicians do wrong or commit crimes doesn't
mean all politicians are crooks. That's just another stereotype. Politicians are people just like the rest of us, not
gods. Most people are decent and law-abiding. Only a relative few are not. The same applies to politicians. We're
the first ones to squawk when our community gets painted with a broad brush because of the actions of a few. Why

CBC....Wild cougar was running around Chicago when police killed it. Animal rights activist question the shooting
