| Sept 5 The media's coverage of the 2008 Presidential candidates is recklessly skewed. Left unchecked and unchallenged, it could taint the election process!The Media Research Center just released a 7-month study of morning news shows and found the networks are giving nearly twice as much airtime to Democratic candidates. Even worse, these segments actively promoted the liberal agenda. In other words, the networks aren't even trying to hide their bias! Joe Addabbo is running a covert campaign through that newspaper and they accuse Maltese of improprieties. Like I said people are not that stupid, they know what is going on. If my memory serves me right, a Father Lynch from Gate of Heaven was a prime mover in getting local congregations to become involved in an organization known as QCO, the Queens Citizens Organization. Among the congregations in Queens that actively participated in it for a number of years was OLG. A number of parishioners were actively involved in the group’s activities in this area and in the borough at large. Of course, those people were not Communists despite that they and the organization regularly used tactics that Alinsky’s IAF promoted. My point I was making was that, in my opinion,you were trying to play the guilt by association game with your comment vis a vis Alinsky and Mrs. Obama. The Democrat to run against Maltese will be determined on Sept. 9. I much prefer to see the November race be between Addabbo and Maltese, rather than have Baldeo be the Dem to run against Serf again. Therefore I will be voting for Joe on Sept. 9. Blacks do not hate the citizens of HB any more than the citizens of HB hate Blacks. Yes, there are haters in this world of all persuasions, but to lump all of any group as being or doing anything is asinine. As far as Malcolm Smith is concerned, he could very well and very easily be replaced as the Senate Dem leader when and if the Senate changes hands. It is not a race between Addabbo and Maltese yet. Until Baldeo, a man who has stood in our community with Charles Barron to call Joe a racist, is beaten in the Primary and the primary is over there is no Dem yet as the candidate. Baldeo lost to Maltese by a hair in 2006. There are far less Republicans now in the district. Baldeo can win against Maltese and so can Joe in November. If Maltese goes down, I far prefer it to be to Joe than to Baldeo. I would suggest that you might too although you would prefer Serf to win in November. By the way, Audrey is running for the Assembly seat. Years ago there was some popular grafitti in the area that HB ruled all, not true in terms of the different elective districts we are in. The most famous slogan of the colonies leading up to the American Revolution was indeed No Taxation Without Representation. The fact that this slogan endures today shows the power of good public relations. Words - coined effectively and succinctly - have staying power. The power of slogans notwithstanding, when people conclude that the War for Independence was about taxes, they forget or never learned some simple facts: The most burdensome and controversial tax levied on the colonies was the Stamp Act of 1765, which was repealed in 1766, nine years before military hostilities broke out and ten years before independence was declared. The last major tax which preceded the war itself was the Tea Act of1773, which represented a paltry tax on British tea in North America. That tax was so paltry, in fact, that British tea, taxed as it was, wasstill cheaper than smuggled Dutch tea. When the Second Continental Congress enumerated the specific grievances in the Declaration of Independence, they listed "imposing Taxes on us without our Consent" as Number Seventeen. Clearly, if taxes were the main cause of the American Revolution, the war would have started sooner than it did, and the Founding Fathers would have thought to list it higher up in the list ot grievances in the Declaration of Independence. Lane. I am just stupid breaking my back sending my son to Archbishop Molloy when he could get just as good an education in John Adams. I know 20 kids who live within 4 blocks of 146 yet they all go to OLG, everyone in HB with the exception of EF must be dumb. Just because it's free doesn't mean its any good. Forty years ago public education was fine but as with all government programs wasteful spending, mismanagement and corruption has ruined it. I am glad you did bring up the education system in this country EF, because that is exactly what our medical coverage will look like in 10 years, free for all, but useless, the citizens of HB will still be paying for the coverage in the same way they pay for Catholic schools only their taxes will be much higher, it's already happening the England. So now our Founding Fathers were liberals according to EF (liberals always re-write history) and I thought the Revolutionary War was over taxation. If our Founding Fathers were Liberals they would have given everyone a farm and had Government workers harvest the crops for them. Those liberals set in motion a march towards progress through the provision of an entitlement, another word you only view from your own mindset and the connotations you ascribe to it, of education for the masses, not just the priveleged. Liberal thinkers in NY and other states and cities took the free education entitlement concept a step further through land grant colleges, state colleges, and municipal colleges like CUNY where people could get college educations at lesser cost because it is subsidized by tax dollars. Many of the other entitlements you, I, and every other American consider to be our rights are ours because of all the liberal thinkers throughout our history from then until now made them so. So my comment saying thank a liberal is somewhat akin to someone saying if you can read this thank a teacher. Yes. Perhaps AS could have gone to Harvard if his or her parents had more money derived by paying less taxes. I could have more money in my pocket too if I paid less taxes for, as an example, a public transportation system I rarely use, but I do not begrudge that it is provided for all to use if they wish. The fact that what Moore has written has generated controversy is an indication that others have read his work and reacted to it, whether the reaction has been pro or con his opinions. Land-based temperature readings are corrupted by the "urban heat island" effect: urban areas encroaching on thermometer stations warm the micro-climate around the thermometer, due to vegetation changes, concrete, cars, houses. Satellite data is the only temperature data we can trust, but it only goes back to 1979. NASA reports only land-based data, and reports a modest warming trend and recent cooling. The other three global temperature records use a mix of satellite and land measurements, or satellite only, and they all show no warming since 2001 and a recent cooling. She knew my strong conservative views were not going to be weaken by her liberalism, one because I was a little older than the rest of the class and two because I am a strong human being. The liberals are sneaky and have a subtle way of feeding young minds their ideas they start by asking what the other persons opinion is and then slowly convincing them that the liberal opinion is the right opinion. I have witnessed it first hand and unfortunately have heard this sort of thing from other conservative students from other campuses. Liberals feed on young people because they are most influential and the proof is in the pudding as the saying goes. Look at how many young people look up to Obama as if he were God, it is a scary thing but it is true because Obama speaks out as being a great change and can convince young minds to anticipate his so called great changes. It's a shame how in a history class I learn more about those who attack America in a positive manor no less rather than America itself and it is sad as CBC said when children know more of Malcolm X than Thomas Jefferson. Brain-washing and social engineering are more of your over-generalizations. Good parenting trumps both concepts in the context of education. The NY State Social Studies curriculum is a public document, which applies to NYC although the city may supplement it. You can locate it with a simple web search using the search terms NY State,Social Studies curriculum. If the schools your children attend are doing a poor job of implementing it, have at the principal and teachers, not those big bad Democrats. If you want them to learn more on Jefferson, one good avenue for exploration is his views on urbanism. Apropos since you, and I assume, your children, live in an urban area. EF |
